About

Hello, I am Chris Berrier, just an average guy living in the triad region in western central NC. I have spent most of my life here and have always loved the mountains, peaks, valleys, and waterfalls that lie just to my north, south and mainly west. As I took up hiking in 2008 as a way to lose weight, waterfalls became my main source to focus on for new hiking trails. The closest state parks to me are Hanging Rock State Park, Stone Mountain State Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, and South Mountains State Park. These were an excellent way for me to begin hiking to the peaks and somewhat smaller waterfalls that are offered. I now seek the bigger, more elusive ones further west in the higher elevations. A beautiful waterfall at the end of a hike is always wonderful motivation to just get out and do it. As the years have gone by, I have also picked up photography and blogging as hobbies as a way to recreate & share what I have seen , felt and experienced with others. I love the challenge that each adds to my life and have also found a great community of others that enjoy the same type of experiences. Please read, enjoy my blogs, photos, and stories of my experiences as I continue to get out, enjoy life, see new waterfalls and share them with others.

Love this site. Great detail and fantastic photos. Thank you.
Any recommendations for falls that I could take my 80 year old father to see that are easy to get to and see with short, safe, trails?

    1. Thank you for the compliments. For an 80 year old father I would recommend Looking Glass Falls in Brevard NC, and Dry Falls along US 64 near Highlands. There are so many others , but these 2 are magnificent waterfalls and roadside with good views from the road and even better views with a very short paved trail walk!

  2. Beautiful pictures, never been there but I believe after seeing these that is where we will be headed this weekend!

  3. I am so glad I found your page. My boyfriend and I moved to NE Tennessee last May and have formed an incredible passion for hiking and marking waterfalls off our list.

    1. Thank you for checking my page out. You guys moved to a great place for waterfalls. I am further east in the piedmont of NC, and NE Tennessee I one of my favorite areas to visit. I only know of the essentials up there; Laurel Falls, Dennis Cove Falls, The Blue Hole, Compression Falls, and Elk River Falls. There are many more though…

  4. Love your site. I enjoy hiking but never considered focusing on waterfalls. Your photos are amazing and as I live in the Piedmont area I’m adding some of your hikes to our list. Keep posting!

  5. Hello, kindred spirit! I am a Salem,VA resident and my hiking friend and I seek out waterfall hikes, too. I enjoyed your entry on Falling Springs Falls as we will be visiting it in October on the way back from a trip to WV. Some other VA falls hikes we’ve enjoyed are Stiles Falls, Apple Orchard Falls, Fallingwater Cascades (near Peaks of Otter). Also, if you venture up to Ohio, I highly recommend the Hocking Hills area for a number of great hikes with waterfall features.

    1. Thank you very much Diane for checking out my site. It’s always good to meet someone that shares this passion. I have been to the Apple Orchard and the Fallingwater Cascades but I have never heard of the Stiles Falls. I will certainly look into visiting them. I also sadly have not made it into Ohio, but sure would like to someday. West Virginia has been a state that I have visited often and have seen many of the beautiful waterfalls there. Without going into too much detail, New River Gorge and the Blackwater Falls area in NE part of the state seem to be the hot spots.
